HUMANITY'S LAST BREATH SELF-TITLED ALBUM REVIEW

I'll start out this review very clearly: this album is one big catastrophe. One of the most realistic musical recreations of a cataclysm ever done, like a terrific entity possessing and grinding our hopeless planet. And “Humanity's Last Breath” is the perfect title for both the band and the album. The sound of demise, of an inescapable fate of destruction crushing the masses. That's right, because as more bands begin using disturbing and dark atmospheres to evoke feelings of terror in an intimate, introspective and personal way, the fears brought to you by the Humanity's Last Breath debut full-length album are built on a wider scale, revealing something closer to a mass event. That almighty sound and that huge aura of overwhelming power literally elevate this album over most of this year's releases. This album will not simply destroy you... it will erase you.

Since the first single “Animal” came out in summer 2012, the band has been working with the heavy burden of being continuously and compulsively compared with Vildhjarta. But I'm personally sure that this album will prove that Humanity's Last Breath have been packing something much more than just a lame Vildhjarta rip-off. We can definitely say they took inspiration from their innovations, but that's the end of it. Humanity's Last Breath went above and beyond, building a refined and authentically massive sound, with an evidently independent and personal touch. Regardless of any similarities with their dear friends in Vildhjarta, they undoubtedly created an amazing album. Speaking of Vildhjarta though, look out for the collaboration. That's right! You can hear Vildhjarta's vocalists go at it on the third track of this album “Bellua Pt.2”.

And what about this music? The riffage is immorally heavy and awesome. Each song features at least one seriously memorable and recognizable riff. The guitar tone manages to be unmeasurably heavy without resulting to be overproduced or too compressed. And in this production we can definitely find the key to the perfect balance that pushes this album to the edge of musical violence. A good balance between fast songs and more downtempo ones, but the groove is never missing... never. The frequent but intelligent use of chugs empowers it even more, while the slow breakdowns with screaming high guitar notes will make your faces twist.

The dark atmosphere is always surrounding the listener. The continuously high volumes could have turned this into a boring album, but the band succeeded in giving each track it's own flavour with unique moments and a different approach to the massive sound in each song. The first two songs “Bellua Pt. 1 & 2” are heavyness incarnate. They're probably the best representative tracks for the sound found on the whole album. On the other hand, “Human Swarm” is the most groovy one. It's serves as a perfect example of the intelligent use of chugs. It's followed by that beast of a single called “Animal” which is still one of the heaviest songs of the album. The track appears here in a re-recorded version, that sadly disappointed me and most of the people I've spoken about this with. The song is exactly the same and the mix makes it possibly heavier but actually less real then the original one. Still a monster of track. With “Shoals” things get faster. It even brings a litle touch of (melodic) death metal. Ot's probably the closest track to the bands previous release “Structures Collapse”. Definitely another skull cracker of a song.

With the following bunch of songs we have, in my opinion, the weakest part of the album. Brutality decreases and even the originality of the riffage. I'm talking about “Tellus Aflame” and “Vultus” followed by the atmospheric track “Drone”. I also must say that I honestly can't understand the usage of “Void” as the first single. It's a really sick song, but one of the less stunning and slamming of the album. It's even one of the less original and representative additions to the album, but at least it ends the weaker part of the album.

Moving on, we find two of the heaviest and most satisfying songs in the album: “Anti” and especially “Make Me Blind” in which the band unleashes it's very best with one of the most impressive endings of the year just before the final “Outro” song. Effectively, it ends humanity in the most epic and dramatic way possible.

Also, I really appreciated the instrumental version of the album being released with the original version... More bands should definitely do this!

Humanity's Last Breath unquestionably proved to be more than a moshable Vildhjarta, not necessary a better band, but surely a different one with some remarkable attributes. They're a band with a strong personality and big creative potential, able to deliver an original and explosive album filled with absolute heaviness and absolute THALL!

HUMANITY'S LAST BREATH SELF-TITLED ALBUM PREVIEW

It's been more than one year since the release of the Humanity's Last Breath single “Animal”, which was published to give the fans an idea of the new sound they were working on. They ended up revealing a new dark and heavy threat to the world growing in the cold darkness of Swedish forests.

In the meantime, Humanity's Last Breath got signed to Rouge Records America and finished the composition of a massive work which looks likely to be one of the heaviest albums of the year. The band has been working with the uncomfortable and stressful bundle of being continuously compared with Vildhjarta, but always looked aware of their own creative potential. They've now constructed a smashing album ready to crush eardrums on September 24th.

And we have some material to prove this already. After the single “Animal”, The Circle Pit premiered the new single “Void” and the band has also uploaded a live video for another song called “Bellua”. If this is not enough for you, snippets from every song on the album are available on Amazon.com. Go check them out and try to keep your jaw from dropping. Remember the Armageddon date - September 24th 2013. Brace yourselves.

EXPLORING THE WORLD - BEST OF

Hello everybody! During the last few months we crossed the borders of metal music and traveled around every corner of the planet to explore some of the coolest and most underrated metal scenes on Earth. It was really fun and we got in touch with a lot of amazing people in the process. Now it's time for us to take a small break and stop traveling for a while. But don't worry. We'll come back to you very soon with plenty more explorations. We just need some time to go deep into each international scene in order to bring you quality articles.

But for now we have one last present for you. This is a  recap of the best bands found in our explorations so far. So without further adieu, here is Exploring The World's cream of the crop \m/

Our first ever exploration took place in Switzerland, observing the Geneva tech-metal sound with acts like Sybreed, Breach The Void, and Mycelia. But one band in particular caught my attention - NEOSIS (New Evolution Of Society Influenced by Scientism). This band is a perfect example of what this Geneva sound actually sounds like! They deliver innovative and futuristic music featuring some really technical and funk-influenced rhythm sections and a sick guitar tone. Their 2012 self-titled debut was truly impressive and took them far beyond Swiss borders. They got to play last year's Euroblast 8, while this year we will meet them at UK Tech-Metal Fest! Here's "Cerebral Helix", enjoy!

The following stop was Sweden, home to some of the greatest metal bands of all time! We especially focused on the new Swedish ambidjent movement, following the thall revolution started by Vildhjarta. We met Humanity's Last Breath, Means End, Jonnah, Libo, Behindert and Maybe That's Why Humans Drink The Darkness That Is Coffee (aka MTWHDTDTIC). I'd like to focus on the first one Humanity's Last Breath. They just finished recording their new album which promises to bring the mayhem down on you very soon. This band looks like a more aggressive, straight-forward, deathcore version of Vildhjarta. But they've also shown they're able to produce original material with their own talent and will. To give you an idea of what's coming, give a listen to their latest single "Animal" below! THALL!

After that we headed to Greece to find a varied and original progressive metal scene, especially around the city of Athens. Amazing bands like Tardive Dyskinesia were featured along with more incredible acts like Mencea, Dakrya and the solo project It Dwells Within. But probably the most stunning, original and experimental one was Dol Ammad, from Thessaloniki. They provide a fast and powerful metal sound with power, progressive, and electronic elements. The music also features the vocal support of a fourteen member four-part choir! Give a listen to "Supernova" below, from their 2012 album "Cosmic Gods: Episode I - Hyperspeed".

Then we crossed the ocean and reached down to Australia! We dove deep into Australia's eclectic metal scene which presented itself as one of the greatest growing metal communities in the world. There's so much amazing stuff coming out of this country that it's really hard to choose just one band. We've worked with the biggest Australian metalcore label WeAreUnified and their various amazing talents. We also went beyond, sifting through the fringes of the Austalian underground. Almost too much impressive material here. But to choose just one act destroying everything world-wide at the moment, the answer ends being easy. Thy Art Is Murder - this band is changing the face of deathcore, bringing some of the heaviest and most extreme stuff ever heard. Check em out \m/ This is "Reign Of Darkness", off their latest album "Hate".

Another country where we spent a lot of time was France. It took three explorations to go deep into this country's scene, and there's still more material waiting to be found there. We analyzed it's dark progressive sounds, some amazing solo projects and the impressive Paris metalcore scene. We focused on acts like Betraying The Martyrs, Gojira, As They Burn, Eryn Non Dae, Khaorah, The Algorithm, Atlantis Chronicles, Hypno5e, Uneven Structure, This Deafening Whisper, Cartoon Theory, A.I.(d), Dorthal, and Blut Aus Nord. Just amazing! But there's one band that deserves a highlight here. I'm talking about Uneven Structure. They just released an amazing new EP called "8" and you should all listen to it! A lot of people are claiming this to be their best work so far. Stream it entirely below!

The exploration of Ukraine's promising djent and math scene was a trip to remember. We met Joconfy, TSAARS, Noja and Return To Base. I'd like to give shout especially to the young guys in Joconfy. This talented djent band won the Euroblast jingle contest and will also be performing at this Summer's UK Tech-Metal Fest too! Check out that explosive tune down below.

After that, we discovered an incredible industrial metal scene in Denmark with Mnemic, Raunchy and The Interbeing. The Interbeing is especially looking to have a bright future. Their 2011 debut "Edge Of The Obscure" was a brilliant album with some heavy groove, supported by a modern metal sound and industrial elements. Their music is surrounded by a dark sci-fi, futuristic atmosphere as a catalyst for the heaviness. Here's the latest music video from that album, the song is called "Shadow Shift". Give it a listen!

Our last European stop was Spain! Here we found that an incredible melodic death metal scene emerged in the Basque country, with incredible bands like NoDrama, The Descent, Darkness by Oath and Jotnar, giving to this are of Spain a swedish flavour. But there's one band that emerged from all the others, and it's Rise To Fall. This melodeath band was able to release two amazing albums with Coroner Records: "Restore The Balance" and "Defying The Gods". Both amazing and intense as you can hear from the song below, "Redrum", taken from their 2010 debut album.

After that, we spent two weeks in Africa supporting a Botswana metal band called Wrust and exploring South Africa's metal scene. In South Africa, we covered four very interesting bands: Crown Black Sky, Truth And Its Burden, Balyios and Megalodon. Let's give one more shout to the only black metal act of all our explorations! Crown Black Sky is a melodic / progressive black metal band influenced by acts like Behemoth, Emperor, Enslaved, and Opeth. Get heavy jamming their song “Stars Of God” below!

The last country we visited was Mexico. With our first time in the new continent we covered some Taco Djent... wait a minute, I hate stereotypes...Well, if you check out artists like Arcadia Libre, N3WMEN and One Of Us you'll throw those stereotypes away! Blast some drum n bass/math/djent music by One Of Us featuring some French madness delivered by The Algorithm.

That's all explorers. It's time to go back home and relax for a while. We hope you enjoy this best of segment along with all of our explorations. We'll come back to you very soon, stronger than ever. Stay tuned \m/

EXPLORING THE WORLD - NEW SWEDISH AMBIDJENT MOVEMENT

This is where the THALL begins... Okay, I know this might look like an easy one and you may say "Ooh this is not that great an exploration of metal!". But people need to know that there's a lot more greatness coming out of Sweden than just Meshuggah and Vildhjarta. After Vildhjarta took the metal underground by storm with their debut album "Masstaden" in 2011, a lot of bands from Sweden put themselves in the wake of that dark and huge sound, frequently entwined by deep atmospheric passages. It spawned a large movement which didn't develop around a single city, but rather grew up everywhere in the country. Ehm...if you follow this website I hope I'm not supposed to introduce names like Meshuggah and Vildhjarta, so I'm going straight to the ones you may not have heard of.

One of the most followed bands of this style is currently Humanity's Last Breath, frequently referred to as "the second Vildhjarta". They've already released 2 EPs you can stream / buy on Bandcamp. But in 2012 they released a new song called "Animal" to show everyone the new direction they were taking with their upcoming album. It actually sounded like a deathcore version of Vildhjarta, a bit more aggressive and straightforward. They'll be releasing this new album in 2013 and it's looking to be one of the bigger releases of the year (check out some samples on their Soundcloud page here, especially the track in which they test their new HLB Etherial Guitar) and they're also one of the first bands confirmed to play at Euroblast 9! Check 'em out.

Another relatively known band is Means End. They're recognized for being the new project of Vildhjarta's former vocalist Robert Luciani. This guy is able to deliver amazing growls and perfect clean vocals. Means End have only released a 3 tracks EP so far which was incredibly badass. And they also promised to deliver some new stuff very soon. Definitely look forward to that! And don't forget their EP is available for FREE! You can download it right here.

Links: Facebook // Youtube // Bandcamp

And now, let's dig a bit further into the underground. Jonnah is a good band coming from Hudiksvall (same city as Vildhjarta). They've been getting a good number of followers through two small EPs packing huge sounds. They recently recruited a new vocalist and are working on some hot new material at the moment. Give 'em a listen on their Soundcloud page and remember that both of their releases are available for free!! Download them right here, right now!

Links: Facebook // Official Website // Soundcloud

Gothenburg's band Limbo is another act you should keep your eyes on. They don't have any official releases yet but they uploaded some really cool material on their Soundcloud. They have two amazing vocalists along with a lot of talent and creativity to boot. Give a listen to their song "With Eyes Wide Shut" and to the snippets they've uploaded on Soundcloud and start following them!

Links: Facebook // Soundcloud

Behindert is another artist you need to check out. It's a one man project from Orebro in which a single guy, Andrè, literally plays all the instruments.  He has some really impressive music on his Soundcloud where you can also find some music from his electronic project Mis Trigger.

Links: MySpace // Soundclick // Soundcloud

We also recently presented another crazy band from Stockholm called MTWHDTDTIC (Maybe That's Why Humans Drink The Darkness That Is Coffee). Their abnormally long name matched by a crazy mix of ambidjent and math-metal will immediately strike you. You better get stoked for their new release "Dum" coming out in July. Should be awesome. Meanwhile, give a listen to their first release "Window To The World" on Bandcamp.

Something interesting about the rising "thall movement" is that most of these bands still haven't released their debut / first album and yet they all have some new incoming material. This means there's gonna be a lot of great stuff coming out of here in the following years which may end up influencing the future of metal. And don't forget that Vildhjarta is also going to release a new EP very soon! Check out our preview for "Thousands of Evils" right here. THALL.

Stay tuned for more explorations!! Next stop: Greece!
