FREE MUSIC MONDAY - EXIGENCY (WIDE EYES SIDE PROJECT)

Wide Eyes is by far one of the most prolific bands to come out in recent times. Just to give you an idea, their 2012 debut album spanned a total of 26 songs. And they've been delivering significant damage ever since, releasing an additional EP with plenty of tracks on the side. And rumor has it they're working on their second full-length (possibly beyond full-length) as well. This band is rapidly expanding and evolving. You get the picture.

Just to add to all of that, there's officially a new project from the band's guitarist, Chris Vogagis, in the works entitled Exigency. They provide sharp, modern Progressive Metal with additional flair from other stylings and forward thinking. This is truly impressive material. And just to make it better, the three track EP "Dissolution" is available for FREE DOWNLOAD through Bandcamp! Take advantage of this, support the band, and watch out for their debut album!

You can stream through all three tracks right here, right now!

MAYONES / SEYMOUR DUNCAN SOLO COMPETITION

You may or may not know that Mayones Guitars and Seymour Duncan have been hosting a guitar solo competition. The prize? A beautiful Mayones Regius 7. Sweet guitar porn! All five finalists will also win a set of Seymour Duncan pickups. The winners will be decided January 20th, so you have until then to give your fingers and brain the exercise of their life. Hop on the the official Mayones website for more info and watch the legendary Keith Merrow lay out the backing track.

The competition is tight. So far, the entries have been insane. We have a couple posted below including submissions from Ever Forthright's Nick Llerandi, Adam Fague from Water's Edge, and Chris Vogagis from Wide Eyes. Enjoy the shreds!

WIDE EYES "AURIGA" NEW TRACK!

I feel like I was just talking about these guys... Ohhh right, I was. As I've said before and will continue to say, Wide Eyes is beyond prolific when compared with most bands and constantly improving. The band dropped a 26 song debut last year and are currently recording a second full-length. They also recorded an EP between the two which they pretty much scraped the release of. Instead they have been releasing the songs from the EP one by one as singles. Wide Eyes just dropped the third track, "Auriga", in for New Years. We have provided all three tracks for your listening pleasure. BLAST THAT!

WIDE EYES STUDIO UPDATE

Expects to track 2 songs in a day, finishes 5. This is the story of Wide Eyes, possibly the hardest working band in the metal underground. After their massive, 26 track debut "Volume" (read the review here), they are back in the studio recording their second full-length (possibly beyond full-length). The band just posted their first official studio update for the record featuring an awesome clip. You can watch it below along with a teaser clip and an awe-inspiring guitar solo entry from guitarist Chris Vogagis aka "The GODge" for the Mayones Regius / Seymour Duncan Competition. Enjoy ya bastards!

WIDE EYES "A NEW BEGINNING" AKA A NEW SONG!

"Well here it is! This song is called "A New Beginning" and was originally going to be featured on our EP but will now be featured as a bonus track along with the rest of the songs off of the EP. It was recorded back when we only had the Axe Fx Ultra so the tone of Album 2 will be very different but I did what I could in the mixing process to make it as good as I could! Hope you guys enjoy!"

Yeah, you heard right. Possibly the most prolific band in underground metal is back with a new track and it's awesome! Wide Eyes have continued to grow as musicians and it really shows. Album 2 should be amazing. You can give "A New Beginning" a listen or five along with some tracks off their massive 26 track debut "Volume" below. Read our review for that abnormally large record right here and grab the whole thing for free on Bandcamp! \m/

And once you're done moshing, watch the newest studio footage, and read the review here. Show these guys some love and stay tuned for more... much more.

NEW WIDE EYES EP ON THE WAY

I recently wrote up a review for the Wide Eyes debut album "Volume" and they're already releasing updates for their next release... These guys work quick as hell! This pre-production teaser gives you a good idea of what to expect, which honestly isn't all that different from their original release. But why fix what's not broken? Watch and listen below.

WIDE EYES "VOLUME" ALBUM REVIEW

First off I gotta say this album is MASSIVE. 26 complete songs spanning a 109 minute album with little to no filler. Yeah, you read right, 26 songs. I listened to "Volume" in it's entirety twice today while driving back from the beach and loved a good bit of it. The effort really shows when such a long record is so powerful and intricate. Makes me wonder how long it's been in the making. Of course, some moments are better than others but overall this is a very solid debut release. Wide Eyes has a very technical, melodic, powerful, progressive sound with electronic and atmospheric elements which feel good in your ears.

A little background... This band started as a solo project in Akron, Ohio but ended up being something much bigger. Now with 6 members, Instrumental Progressive Metal band Wide Eyes just put out their debut exclusively on Bandcamp August 21st for streaming and download (You get to name your own price. That's a deal and a half). Adam "Nolly" Getgood of Periphery/Red Seas Fire mastered "Volume" and did a good job of it.

This band first caught my attention awhile back when they released a pre-production demo for "The Galveston Key". The varied songwriting was great and everything flowed nicely. That first impression would be a good way to sum up this album. Just very well done. The album opener and standout track "Inception" also really gives you an idea of what to expect. It caught me off guard at first with sparkly upbeat electronics only to smash me with heaviness and smooth me out with melody before chopping with jagged edged technical riffs. Other stand out tracks are "Marahute", "Genie", "Revival" "Chronicles of Zuo", "New Order of the Ages" and the 10 minute epic "Demarcation" among a large number of others. The two songs made available by the band on youtube can be found above and below. A full album stream is available here. I found only a handful of moments on "Volume" to be a tad stale. For example, "Eskalofrio" is fundamentally a good song but I feel like I've heard it all before. This band has an influence from/similarity to groups such as Volumes, Periphery, and maybe a bit of Animals as Leaders and I, The Breather. But similarities aside, they definitely have a driving force of their own. Gems of genius and originality can be found throughout the experience.

These guys are prolific as hell. They have already been working on a new EP and a second album. That being said, I think everyone should give Wide Eyes a round of applause for the effort. It would be really cool to see Wide Eyes take on a vocalist, but honestly they can do whatever they want. But in the mean time you should definitely get yourself to Bandcamp and give these dudes a download or some monies.

WIDE EYES RELEASE MASSIVE ALBUM "VOLUME"

This band started as a solo project in Akron, Ohio but ended up being something much bigger. Now with 6 members, Instrumental Progressive Metal band Wide Eyes just put out one of the biggest albums I've EVER seen. 26 whole songs clocking in at over 100 minutes were released on the Wide Eyes Bandcamp for stream and download yesterday. All mastered by Adam "Nolly" Getgood (Periphery/Red Seas Fire). You get to name your own price so you can have all 26 for free if you want. But with all the work these guys have done, it wouldn't hurt to spare a few bucks.

I honestly haven't had a chance to listen to even a quarter of this album, but everything I've heard from these dudes is quality. If I find time, I may end up giving the album a review. Wide Eyes has a very technical, melodic, powerful, progressive sound with electronic and atmospheric elements. If you wanna listen, we have the stream below. You can also download the entire album (if your library has space) here.

This band started as a solo project in Akron, Ohio but ended up being something much bigger. Now with 6 members, Instrumental Progressive Metal band Wide Eyes will be be putting out their 26 song debut very soon. Yeah, you read right, 26 songs. That's a huge debut if I've ever seen one. Not to mention they're 26 songs mastered by Nolly (Periphery / Red Seas Fire). All in all, it will clock in at well over 100 minutes.
