EVER FORTHRIGHT LABEL SCANDAL / SUPPORT

I've been a big fan of Ever Forthright since their inception. In the past we've been fortunate enough to work with and successfully promote them. So naturally, I was pissed to come home from vacation only to learn that they were gipped big time.

Apparently the band entrusted approximately $3,000 to Myriad Records to be placed in a high interest account. This was done in case of an emergency situation. Well... the emergency situation came and went and Myriad Records essentially failed at returning that money back to the band. It has been presumably lost (?) or stolen. Ever since this situation has been made public, all Myriad Records social networking and stores have ceased to function. Sketchy much?

Crooked business aside, Ever Forthright has successfully made an attempt to raise that money via crowdfunding (currently at $4,398). The campaign continues and your contributions yield hilarious results. I highly recommend that all EF fans take advantage of this while it lasts. Check the crowdfunding video along with some music below and contribute HERE.

NEW SINGLE FROM EVER FORTHRIGHT!

A couple weeks ago, when Monuments announced Chris Barretto as their new full time vocalist, Ever Forthright fans were worried he would leave. Soon after, Chris cleared everything up with confirmation that he was working hard on both projects as a trailer for new Ever Forthright material was released.

Now the band's here to prove that they're still united and about to come back stronger than ever. In fact, here's the full version of the song they sampled, entitled “Riot Pt. 1”. It is one of the darkest and heaviest songs released by this band so far. Chris Barretto's vocal skills seem to get better week after week. He keeps pushing it to the next level with his already amazing music. Check out the new song and get stoked for the new material coming sometime soon.

CHRIS BARRETTO UPDATE ON EVER FORTHRIGHT / MONUMENTS – NEW SONG TEASER!

This is a follow up to the announcement of the new Monuments vocalist. Read up here.

Here's news that will make our friend Mike Thall very happy along with many other people around the globe. It has been recently revealed that Chris Barretto (Ever Forthright's current vocalist, former Periphery and Friend For A Foe vocalist and The HAARP Machine live member) will be the new full-time front man for Monuments. Even though this has been received as a beautiful news there are a lot of people legitimately worried about Ever Forthright's future! What is gonna happen to Barretto's main project? Well Chris just posted a message for his fans that shall explain the situation.
__________________________________________________________________________________

“Greetings to all!

By now I'm sure you've all heard the news and I'm excited to announce that I'm the new singer of Monuments! Let me just squash any doubts that some of you may have, Ever Forthright is not going anywhere and I will be doing both projects with all my heart and soul! That being said, there are many questions of yours that I'd like to answer when things aren't so busy on my end. I intend to have a full Q&A session if you all would be into the idea. Until then, get ready for some new, ULTRA-COMBO, Ever Forthright music coming soon :)” - Chris Barretto
__________________________________________________________________________________

If you're not excited yet, check out the preview of a new Ever Forthright song called “Riot” (any lyrical influence from The HAARP Machine?). We'll be hearing Monuments new vocalist at the forthcoming UK Tech-Metal Fest on July 11th and there's no need to say that I'm stoked as fuck!

CB = Chris Barretto
NL = Nick Llerandi
MT = Mike Thall

MT - How did you dudes come up with the name Ever Forthright?

CB - Buuuuuuuuuuuuttt ssssseeeeeeeexxx

NL - ... well. Yea. But also, that name is very old. It goes back to when Billy and I started writing music together when we were teenagers. We wanted to make music that was an honest representation of ourselves. Thankfully the name still applies and holds true today with the lineup. Good thing we didn't decide to go with "Carnivorous Shit Fuck"... not kidding.

MT - "Carnivorous Shit Fuck" would make an awesome grindcore band! Probably better that you went with Ever Forthright though. You guys live in a BIG damn city. What are your favorite NYC past times?

CB - Drinking 40's, smoking blunts, and one night stands

NL - Yea that's definitely a good time, but I'm going to go with... well... actually the exact same thing.

MT - Sounds like a good time to me. Speaking of NYC, the new music video “Lost In Our Escape” was partially filmed on a New York City rooftop (watch it above). Can you tell us about the shoot and the ideas behind the video?

CB - For sure. The song and the video is about a seduction. Instead of going with a visual that was straight forward about it, i had the idea to do the seduction between a girl and her art. She represents the female energy, the paint represents the male. As she paints throughout the video, her connection to the paint becomes more and more intense. The paint flows off the canvases, it tries to over take her, she resists, the paint tries again, succeeding in the end. It's just a fun way to re-imagine an age old dance. We shot half of the video on a Brooklyn rooftop, and the other half in a Brooklyn loft. I feel like it's pretty awesome that we have this skyline available to us, so I wanted to show off the city as much as possible in the band shots. Andrew Pulaski directed the video and really helped capture the theme of the song. It was great to work with him and his crew on the two days of shooting. Can't wait to do another one!

MT - Very cool. That description definitely adds additional value to the video. The song came from your insanely good self-titled debut. Can you tell us a bit about what went into creating that record?

NL - That record is a culmination of many years of writing and learning and living. Sometimes I can't believe we actually finished it. It's the years that Billy and I were just writing alone. Then I can hear all the parts where Kevin became a part of the band, when I met Jerad at the conservatory, deciding to make it a live thing and throwing my brother in the mix, then when Chris came in and did what literally no one else could do, it happened. Chris and I did a interview in Europe when we were touring with Born of Osiris, After the Burial, Monuments, and playing with The HAARP Machine, and were asked something along the lines of, "When was Ever Forthright born?". And after a second we realized that Ever Forthright was only just recently born. Maybe even somewhere AFTER the first record; because now from start to finish, everything we write and do is as a team. This will definitely be noticeable in future releases, material, anything. And for the better.

CB - Thanks! Vocally, I just wanted to be as epic as the music behind me. I tried some different things on the record in terms of harmony and structure that i hadn't done before. I felt like the idea was to be as outside of the box as possible but still have something to hook onto, if that makes any sense.

MT - Makes sense. You can definitely hear it in the final product. What inspires your music?

CB - Love, life, and sex.

NL - Family is a big one for me, and the idea that these people are my family; to create with them and learn from them for as long as possible. And not only the people in the band, but the people around me are in that family too. Knowing that if I keep doing what I'm doing, I can be surrounded by these people, relationships, and friendships for a very long time. That is all the inspiration I need.

MT - A good number of people have been craving more since the debut. You just hinted, but can you guys officially state if you have any new music on the way?

CB - Heeeeeeeeeeeeellllll nah. Actually we do, and we think you'll dig it.

NL - But seriously... no...but yea

MT - Gotcha. Looking forward to hearing the music you aren't working on. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink. Not too long ago Nick won the Mayones / Seymour Duncan Solo Contest. That solo was nuts! How was the response to that?

CB - gaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAy

NL - Thank you, Chris. It was fantastic. Really one of the greatest things to happen for me and my band. Not necessarily for the views on YouTube, and the guitar but more so for the fact that people know what I'm here to do now. My goal was to get involved and show people that I'm here to be an artist. I'm not here to try to continue replicating what a million people are already doing a great job at. There's no need. I want to bring some new sounds, and try things. But I also want people to know that I'm always going to be trying new things. I don't like getting too comfortable, and I don't want my listeners to either. For me it's not just entertainment, it's an art. And it's not just an art, it's a science. And every song, lick, riff, whether it be improvised or thru-composed, I'm thinking about more than just being an entertainer. I'm thinking about the people around me, their feelings and how they'd react. I'm a very curious musician, and I love observing what some sounds can do to people. And that's what I'll continue to do.

MT - Awesome. Keep doing what you're doing man. Definitely a fan of what you bring to the table. Out of curiosity, what’s the situation with you guys and The HAARP Machine?

CB - We're just subs for the time being. We had a chance to help out and we were glad to do so. as of now, it's pretty much at that level.

NL - It was a blast, but I have my baby to worry about I'd play again if the timing was ok, but right now it's Ever Forthright full time.

MT - That's actually kind of a relief. Don't get me wrong, you two make a perfect fit for The HAARP Machine, but Ever Forthright is a force to be reckoned with. It's good to hear you'll keep up the full-time status. Have you guys done much touring as Ever Forthright? Any favorite shows?

CB - We've done one tour in Canada. It was an awesome tour and Guelph was my favorite. Some good Canadian poutine lead to some good ol' poontang.

NL - ... On video.

MT - I keep asking bands this question for the laughs. What’s the craziest thing that’s ever happened to you on tour other than your apparent sex tape?

CB - I had sex in a stripclub bathroom.

NL - I... didn't. I don't know really. haha. I'm kind of boring. BUT! At that same strip club I was taking a wiz in a urinal and the stall door to my left opened slightly and a man whispered, "I'm in here if you want"... I didn't want. So I got the hell out of there. This was Prague by the way.

MT - Hahah oh man, talk about close calls. Maybe you can add some experiences this year. What are your plans for the rest of 2013?

CB - Write some stuff...maybe a little rape.

NL - RAPPELLING, I, think he means.... We enjoy mountain climbing. And Touring, which is on the agenda as well.

MT - You heard it people. Hide yo kids, hide yo wife and your mountains. Here’s the fun round. What’s a French Doorknob? Chris should know.

CB - I no longer endorse french doorknobs.

MT - Sorry kids. No French Doorknobs today. Thanks for your time fellas. Any shout outs you wanna give before we end here?

NL & CB - I love my penis. But much love and respect to all of our supporters, our friends, and our family. we look forward to our continued growth with all of you beautiful people!

EVER FORTHRIGHT "LOST IN OUR ESCAPE" MUSIC VIDEO

On Tuesday the 26th, Ever Forthright released their first ever music video for the song "Lost In Our Escape". The track was featured on their self-titled debut album, released in December 2011 through Myriad Records. You may remember it for being a mind-blowing effort which left damn near everyone speechless (and spineless). It showed the world that this is waaaaay more than just Chris Barretto's new project, but a solid band capable of delivering original and extraordinary music.

The music video itself is a really cool and kinda "artistic" experience and will show you the band rocking out with their oversized instruments on a rooftop, while the song... well, the song is just as magical as the video, which definitely lives up to that amazing music. You should go check it out right now!

TOP 10 ALBUMS OF 2011 - RECAP

In the weeks leading up to the end of 2012 and our top 10 list of the year, we're giving credit to the past couple years as well. 2011 was a landmark year for music, making this list the hardest to construct so far. Without further adieu, here are the top ten albums of 2011, no shits given about whiny elitist opinions. Also check out our top 10 of 2009 and 2010.

   1
UNEVEN STRUCTURE - FEBRUUS

This album is too good for words. It is the definition of ethereal beauty with an intelligent, heavy groove laced throughout. Uneven Structure's full-length debut "Februus" is an hour and a half long masterpiece spanning across two discs. This French musical unit put 2 years of meticulous effort into constructing "Februus", making for one of the most surreal packages to ever bless human ears. Everything about this record is perfect. There's a vast amount of ground across the uneven soundscapes for ears and brains to explore. Every single track on this album is huge and awe-inspiring. "Februus" gets the award for 2011's album of the year.

   2
TESSERACT - ONE
Tesseract's debut full-length "One" is easily one of the best records to drop in 2011. Actually almost the best. With genius level songwriting and the magical vocal work of Daniel Tompkins (now ex-Tesseract), this record excelled in every way. From the huge amounts of deep groove to the fascinating use of atmosphere within the music. All the tracks coalesce into a haunting, modern masterpiece. Ones such as "Lament", "Nascent", "April", "Eden", and the six phenomenal parts of "Concealing Fate" stand out especially. After giving this album a good listen it's hard to resist the urge to listen again... and again.

TEXTURES - DUALISM

We we're lucky enough to be in the first crowd to ever see this band preform in the U.S. It was shortly before this record struck, but we got an early glimpse of the genius to come. "Dualism" is an absolutely brilliant addition to the archives of heavy music. With the addition of new vocalist Daniël de Jongh to the mix, the band really stepped up to create this work of art. Textures have already earned their place as Progressive Metal gods. This album backed up that position 110%. Huge tracks like "Arms of the Sea", "Singularity", "Reaching Home", and "Sketches from a Motionless Statue" are all reasons why this album is a modern metal classic.

   4
EVER FORTHRIGHT - SELF TITLED

Yet another modern masterpiece comes from New York City's Ever Forthright. Their self-titled debut feels far ahead of it's time. It is a technical mind fuck with serious musicality to boot. There's a very unique, ambitious feel to this record with the inclusion of jazzy segments and mind bending, chaotic, shreddy composition. Chris Baretto (ex-Periphery) even whips out the sax at points when he's not singing / screaming his lungs out. This album has a very addictive quality to it. For example, "All Eyes on Earth", "The Little Albert Experiment", and "Screen Scenarios" will have you hooked. Add it all together and BOOM! You have a classic.

   5
THE HUMAN ABSTRACT - DIGITAL VEIL

Neo-classical titans, The Human Abstract, came back stronger than ever with their third studio full-length, "Digital Veil". One of the biggest game changers with this record was the return of the classically trained, genius guitar virtuoso A.J. Minette. With his influence, this record took that classical influence and blended it with a very modern, technical sound, making for some insanely good music. "Digital Veil" is filled with aural pleasures and mind bending composition. "Complex Terms", "Digital Veil", "Horizon To Zenith", "Faust", and "Holographic Sight" are some great examples. All in all, "Digital Veil" is a must listen.

   6
VILDHJARTA - Måsstaden

To start with... THALL. Needed to get that out of my system. Hailing from Sweden, Vildhjarta's full-length debut "Måsstaden" was one of the most evil, heaviest, strangest metal records ever conceived \m/ It is one helluva experience to say the least. Packing in coldly calculated musical segments with a deadly edge, the sensation of just being surrounded by this unnaturally heavy music is an experience within itself. Some highly recommended tracks include the lethal "Dagger", updated "Traces", heavy edged "All These Feelings", and eeevil "Benblåst". If you managed to miss out on "Måsstaden", you need to get some thall in your life... now.

   7
FALLUJAH - THE HARVEST WOMBS

Californian Death Metal innovators Fallujah were a must for this list with their legendary record, "The Harvest Wombs". This extreme metal experience is easily one of the best to come out in 2011 with it's face smashing edge and impressive display of musical command. Fallujah has the ability to seamlessly transition from heavy as hell Death Metal segments into an explosion of utterly beautiful, inspiring music. There are several "holy shit!" moments on this one. A couple examples can be found in the tracks "Alpha Incipient", "Cerebral Hybridization", "The Flame Surreal", and "Assemblage of Wolves". Highly recommended \m/

   8
ANIMALS AS LEADERS - WEIGHTLESS

After the godly Animals As Leaders debut, the band took a side step that almost no one expected in "Weightless". This album is an experimental tour de force which moved away from their original "djent" influence and brought out amazing results. It's hard to imagine this music was actually written by human beings as it offers a virtuosic detour into previously unexplored grounds of extreme technicality, fusion, and out of the box songwriting. "An Infinite Regression", "Odessa", "Do Not Go Gently", "Isolated Incidents", "Cylindrical Sea", and "Weightless" are just a few of the incredible experiences on this album.

   9
PROTEST THE HERO - SCURRILOUS

Protest The Hero is a god damn insane band. The high level of talent here is hard to believe. And just like the massive "Fortress", "Scurrilous" delivers on so many fronts. From the seemingly constant shredding and next level musical command from the instrumental corps to the Dio-esque vocals and damn near limitless range of Rody Walker, this record is a mind shattering experience. Among many greats, some favorites include the shreddy "C'est La Vie", "Hair-Trigger", "Sex Tapes", and "Tongue Slipper" with it's hilarious outro (Speak! Ohhh yeeaaah). If you're jonesing for some shred heavy goods, Protest The Hero is sure to satisfy.

   10
BORN OF OSIRIS - THE DISCOVERY

The third and longest full-length album from Born of Osiris may also be their best to date. "The Discovery" is a heavy, punishing listening experience filled with shreddy goods and acute technical flair. Not to mention it also has some awesome album artwork! The collision of minds between Lee McKinney, Cameron Losch, and Jason Richardson (ex-Born of Osiris) was a HUGE one. They displayed much growth in their songwriting and execution, cranking out greats such as the visualized perfection of "Recreate", hard hitting "Two Worlds of Design", directional "Follow The Signs", and massive closer "Behold". Follow the signs to The Discovery.

EVER FORTHRIGHT UPDATED TRACK!

New York City's Ever Forthright's debut was easily one of my favorite records of last year. This band brings out immense levels of creativity and skill as they do what they do best. And what they do best is write skull cracking metal! ...with some pretty parts. Featuring the multi-talented Chris Baretto (ex-Periphery) as the front man, Ever Forthright boasts a unique twist on their music with saxophone segments. Saxy prog metal! He also sings and screams like a beast above the incredible instrumentation. If you haven't heard this band yet, now's your time. And if you have... now's your time again. The band just launched a play through for a tweaked version of the nasty, tech heavy track "Spineless" aka "Spineless v2". We also have some more goods from their debut. Blast that! And you like it, buy that right here!
