THE WITHIN THE RUINS VIDEO IS STILL PROCESSING... 24+ HOURS LATER. YOUTUBE.......
Back in April, there was a massive tour leading up to the northeast's hallowed New England Metal & Hardcore Festival. It was appropriately dubbed "The Road To New England Metal & Hardcore Festival". The 2013 edition boasted a strong line-up with After The Burial, The Contortionist, Within The Ruins, and Glass Cloud wrecking stages nightly.
We have some footage from this tour that never saw the light of day... until now. Better late than never right? Our team actually attended two shows, one in Pittsburgh and one in upstate New York. The following footage is primarily from Pittsburgh, including a video of local heroes Bury Thy Kingdom.
Hide yo’ kids and hide yo’ wives because starting this month the heavy metal brutality of The Acacia Strain is in full effect on the “No Way Out Tour” accompanied by the hard hitting sounds of Within The Ruins, Xibalba, Fit For An Autopsy, and American Me. Touching down on each coast from California to New York, the tuff sounds of these 5 bands will be coming to an area near you. If you are into death and destruction with a side of brutal mosh pits than you MUST attend. But be weary: NO PUSSIES ALLOWED!
If you think you have what it takes then check out the flyer or visit any of the listed bands websites and purchase your tickets here. After the deed is done there is nothing else more important than preparing yourself for a night of pure craziness and utter intenseness!
America's very own progressive deathcore/metalcore unit Within The Runs just released a fresh new music video for a song off their latest album “Elite”. The chosen song is “New Holy War” and it's definetly worth your time. It's not only one of my favourite songs off the album but it looks like it was one of the most appreciated by the audience, and surely the perfect one for a new video. Check it out if you want to be delighted once again by some amazing guitar skills and overall sick music!
Here is a DAMN HEAVY TOUR. It's recently been announced that The Acacia Strain will be hitting the road alongside Within The Ruins, Xibalba, Fit For An Autopsy, and American Me from August into September on the No Way Out Tour. There will be NO survivors.
Check the flyer / promo video video down below for dates. We also included music from the bands. See you in the pit \m/
It’s the start of July already. We’re already over halfway through 2013. Jeez time really does fly. The amount of metal of the highest quality that has hit the stores already is astounding. We've been doing our best to keep up with all the notable releases of the year and I think we've been doing a pretty decent job. Not too much has flown under the radar and I’ve personally had time to digest mostly everything I was excited for at the beginning of the year. I’ve been surprised by a lot of the music I’ve really been enjoying, some of which is a lot lighter than I ever would have predicted. Without further ado, here are the Best Of lists and some song highlights from our four main writers starting with my own (albums in no particular order). If you’ve missed any of these, definitely check em out.

Are you still sure that Europe always gets the best tours? Look again. Californian technical death metal masters The Faceless will be on tour around North America for 15 shows in June. But this is just the beginning. They'll be teaming up with some of the greatest technical death metal / deathcore acts of America! Within The Ruins and Rings Of Saturn will join them for the whole tour while Abiotic and Today I Caught The Plague will be performing on selected dates. Man, I think I may cross the ocean swimming to witness one of these shows!
Apparently, The Faceless made their Canadian tour not entirely in Canada. More tour dates were announced for their tour with Withing The Ruins, Rings of Saturn, and Today I Caught The Plague. Dates in Poughkeepsie, NY and Worchester, MA join the primarily Canadian tour. But hey, that's great news for fans in the states.
The Faceless is currently on tour with The Dillinger Escape Plan until June 1st which is a huge accomplishment. Next is this headliner in Canada/two dates in the US. The band honestly is one of the heavier bands to live on Sumerian Records' roster and hopefully they'll be around for some time. Below is the tour poster with dates so be sure to try and catch this brutal tour!

JC = Joe Cocchi
MT = Mike Thall
MT - Let’s start with the basics. How did you guys come up with
the name Within The Ruins?
JC - We came up with the name so long ago, it was back when we
were in high school. Actually a good friend of ours who was playing guitar with
us at the time came up with "From Within The Ruins" originally. Once
we made our MySpace page we dropped the "From" and the name just
stuck. We actually considered changing it when we first got signed but decided
we had already built somewhat of a fan base under that name.
MT – And that fan base keeps on growing. You guys write some heavy ass tunes. What inspires you?
JC - Thanks! Well I guess our 6 years or so of touring has
definitely effected the way we write and sound now. "Heavy" just
works really well for us in a live scenario, so we do concentrate on that
aspect. Most importantly we try to balance our sound so there's a little bit
for every listener. We're always striving to push boundaries in this band.
"Heavier, faster, louder" is a pretty common old school "heavy
metal" motto I guess we've adopted from bands we looked up to as we were
learning to play our instruments.
MT – Speaking of inspirations, Within The Ruins is a BIG name in
the eyes of many metal heads. Any tips for aspiring musicians?
JC - It's really awesome to see bands appreciate and take
inspiration from our music. That was my dream the first day I picked up a
guitar! You have to take risks, you have to set goals, you have to make
sacrifices and you will see results.
MT - Definitely can see the results through your latest album “Elite”. Can you tell us about that
album and what went into creating it?
JC - The album means a lot to us honestly. We worked so hard on
it, and went through a lot of shit during the process of writing and recording
the album. As a band and as friends we all struggle together with this
lifestyle and I think a lot of emotion ended up in the album. The longer this
band lives, the stronger we get, and it feels great to be able to channel
through our music. We're proud of how the album came out and glad our fans are
enjoying it.
MT - Do you have any favorite tracks from the record?
JC - Depends on the mood I am in, but "I, Blaspheme"
"Solace" and "The Charm" still stand out to me even after a
few years of listening to all these songs.
MT - How do you feel about the response to “Elite”?
JC - It's overwhelming. Which is awesome. Our fans are true and
it seems they are growing with us as our music slowly changes, which doesn't
always happen.Fans and aspiring
musicians tell us they look up to us. People tell us our music and lyrics
inspire them. Hearing shit like that is what keeps us going!
MT - We know you guys tour a good bit. About how many times has
Within The Ruins hit the road over the years?
JC - So many times that I can't even remember all the tours
we've done. Were truly a DIY band. We started touring on our own with no label,
no booking agent etc back in 2006. We did that for a solid 3 years, 6 months
out of the year, because we liked the experience. We didn't make shit for
money, we didn't care. Obviously we've been lucky enough in the past few years
to finally start to land legit tours. We're on the road 9 months out of the
year now and still loving it. We're on our 5th touring van now and it has over
300k miles on it if that gives you any idea haha
MT - That's intense! And you’ll be heading out with After The Burial, The
Contortionist (unfortunately without Johnathan Carpenter), Glass Cloud, and
City In The Sea on The Road to New England Metal Fest Tour soon. Are you stoked
to be playing that and New England Metal Fest?
JC - Of course! Road to metal is a great line up and great
group of dudes to tour with! As far as new England metal fest goes it is such
an honor and accomplishment for us to be a part of. I grew up attending the
fest as a fan!
MT - What’s the craziest thing that’s ever happened to you on
tour?
JC - I gained 30 pounds the first year we started touring
because we partied and ate like slobs haha
MT - That's legit haha. What are your plans for the rest of the year?
JC - Tour, tour, tour! We have some good tours lined up for the
summer. They will be announced soon!
MT - You heard it people! Go see Within The Ruins! Now here's the fun round. The dude from the “Elite” cover pops up and
grants your band one wish. What are you wishing for?
JC - Tour with Metallica.
MT - I would go see that... twice. Those are all the questions we have. Thanks for your time!
Any shout outs you want to give?
JC - Thank you! Shout out to Josh Wickman at Dreadcore
Productions for making this album sound insane! Thanks to all our fans for the
support!
There's a massive tour headed through the States leading up to the massive New England Metal & Hardcore Festival. This is The Road To New England Metal Fest. Probably the coolest Festival Tour idea ever.
Starting April 12th, After The Burial, Within The Ruins, The Contortionist (unfortunately without Johnathan Carpenter... read why here), Glass Cloud, and City In The Sea will raise hell through America leading up to the big event, and perform at the Festival itself on the 20th. You can read all about the massive event right here. Metal Fest runs from April 19th to the 21st, but the tour will run all the way until the 27th. Go ahead and check the dates along with music from all the bands down below.
It's official. Within The Ruins is back! The tech metal giants have just released a third, full-length studio album upon the masses. And you better believe "Elite" marks a hard hitting return from the four-piece.
Coming out of Massachusetts, the band has been brutally wrecking the ear
drums of heavy music enthusiasts worldwide for awhile now. This is the
kind of group that ignited a spark from the very beginning with an
original, heavy approach to their music. It's the type of sound that
many other bands only wish they could pull off. Within The Ruins stand
far above the majority of the Metalcore / Deathcore pack with their extreme talent,
relatively out of the box approach, and a strong signature sound.
Speaking of that signature sound, "Elite" is pretty much everything you've come to expect from Within The Ruins. It's essentially an extension of the bands previous work. Not too much has changed here, but this isn't a bad thing at all. It just means you can confidently anticipate mind-bending technical heaviness, blazing guitar riffs, impressive machine-like drumming, powerful vocal delivery, and a relentless spirit making for an overall epic package. You can tell a good bit of effort went into writing this album as it weaves and twists from song to song, all while staying planted within it's roots.
While listening to this record, it's apparent that the music is consistently strong. This means that most of the tracks are pretty much evenly matched. They all bring a complex, mosh worthy formula directly to the listener. However, some tracks do especially stand out in my mind. These include the not so peaceful "Solace", single "Feeding Frenzy", the instrumental sequel "Ataxia II", blasphemous "I, Blashpheme", "Weightless", and the appropriately named title track. This band is elite and every track has something great going on from "Terminal" to "Dreamland".
I have no direct criticisms of the record itself. It's a well written, intelligent contribution to metal. The only thing is they haven't expanded much on their sound. But to reiterate what has already been stated above, this is a good thing because Within The Ruins brings such an awesome sound to begin with.
And the not so surprising final verdict is... "Elite" makes for a great listening experience through and through. It's incredibly heavy, fun, and moshable to boot. Expectations were set and the band delivered. You can sample the record above. And if you start inexplicably moshing with your surroundings, it's a good sign you should go out and buy the album \m/
Within The Ruins is back! This extremely talented Massachusetts metal unit is as great and heavy as ever. They just dropped a brand new single / lyric video in support of their upcoming album "Elite". "Feeding Frenzy" is an absolutely solid, hard hitting track bringing all the crazy instrumental work and technicality we've come to expect from WTR. Go ahead, give it a good listen along with some awesome tracks from the previous Within The Ruins records, "Invade" and "Omen". Then check our full album preview for "Elite" right here for more details. February 26th will be MASSIVE. Stay tuned for more from Within The Ruins \m/
