MACHINE HEAD SIGNS WITH NUCLEAR BLAST

It appears as if the legendary Machine Head is no longer a part of Roadrunner Records. They've moved on to find a new home with the European juggernaut Nuclear Blast. However, they aren't simply with Nuclear Blast Records. They're included in the brand new wing of the metal mountain known as Nuclear Blast Entertainment ran by former Roadrunner A&R associate Monte Conner.

Read up on the official press release below, listen to some awesome music, and stay tuned for much more in the Machine Head camp!

After over a year of dialogues with various record labels, Machine Head have decided on a new home with the newly launched arm of Nuclear Blast Records, Nuclear Blast Entertainment, headed by the band’s longtime friend and former Roadrunner A&R guru Monte Conner. Excitement runs high in both camps.

Says Conner, “I feel incredibly fortunate to say I have signed Machine Head – for the third time! They wrote one of the greatest metal albums of all-time as their debut and then turned around and beat it 13 years later. Machine Head have produced some of the best material of their storied career over the course of their last three records, and like a fine wine, they just keep getting better with age. The songwriting in this band is beyond evolved compared to the majority of their peers, and as a lyricist, Robb Flynn is second to none. On the live front, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more commanding and dominating band.”

Continues Conner, “Ever since the launch of Nuclear Blast Entertainment, one of my main goals has been to reunite with Machine Head. I am grateful to Machine Head for continuing to put their trust in me as well as my new partners at Nuclear Blast, who share my passion for and commitment to the band.”

This pairing puts one of the top metal bands in the world with one of the top metal labels in the world and puts both on track for an epic, mutually beneficial and strong future together. Guitarist/vocalist Robb Flynn adds: “Monte Conner has believed in Machine Head for 20 years, his belief has never wavered, and we are extremely proud to work alongside him once again. When I visited the Nuclear Blast compounds in both Germany and Los Angeles last year, the vibe and spirit that Markus Staiger, Gerardo Martinez and their respective teams created took me back to the spirit of the old Roadrunner Records days, back when bands like Obituary and Sepultura were changing the world with their music. Everyone believes, everyone wants it for the right reasons, it’s about creating and respecting a culture, about pioneering new ways for people to discover great music.”

Nuclear Blast founder/owner and long time Machine Head supporter Markus Staiger states: “There’s no doubt that Machine Head is one of the most influential modern day bands. Just listen to their debut album which still sounds like it’s been recorded just a few months ago – sound wise as well as in terms of songwriting! Or check out their recent metal masterpiece The Blackening which shows the band is still peaking and is more vital than ever. I’ve been a huge Machine Head fan from day one and I’ve always followed them through all the different stages of their career. So it is a real honor for me to finally be working with them, having them join the Nuclear family and kicking some major ass worldwide for and with Machine Head! Let freedom ring with a Nuclear Blast!”

Machine Head will enter the studio in late October to begin recording its eighth album for an early 2014 release, followed by a massive worldwide tour cycle.

Machine Head‘s most recent studio release, 2011′s Unto The Locust, entered The Billboard 200 chart at position No. 22 – putting them in the Top 25 for the first time in the band’s history. The album was the follow-up to the 2007 Grammy nominated metal milestone The Blackening, widely hailed as one of the finest metal albums of the last decade, which led the band to an extensive three-year tour, sharing the stage with such heavy hitters as Slipknot and Metallica.

MACHINE HEAD REVEALS NEW BASSIST

Thrash metallers Machine Head have unveiled the name of their new bassist. And the replacement for Adam Duce is Jared MacEachern. MacEachern was formerly the guitarist and vocalist for the band Sanctity. The band played a mainstream thrashy heavy metal type of music. So that’s an indication of what he brings to the table compositionally. But I doubt he’ll writing too much music honestly. I’ve included a Sanctity song below.

This choice may surprise fans. Former Fear Factory bassist/guitarist Christian Olde Woblers auditioned and really nailed both the bass and the vocals. Many fans, including myself, were clamoring for C.O.W. to become the new bassist for Machine Head. Honestly I think Wolbers audition was definitively better and I would have liked to see him get the job. But herein lies the catch.

MacEachern has toured with Machine Head before. The new Machine Head bassist filled in on backup vocals only in 2007 when Adam Duce was injured. The band was incredibly impressed with the guys attitude and chemistry back then, and found he was the perfect mix between green and jaded veteran to fit in with the guys and complete the band. Machine Head has finished demoing the guitars for a new album as well and I’m looking forward to new material from them.

MOSHING ILLEGAL?

Breaking the law! Breaking the law!

The internet is such a wonderful and stupid place. This informational gateway is a hotspot where laughs are had, pranks get pulled, and rumors get out of control.

Most recently, the rumor mill has declared that moshing is now illegal. Of course this has caused confusion among members of the heavy music community. This claim is most definitely not true. There is literally no credible source backing this statement. The Supreme Court is not involved. The end.

Supposedly a twelve-year-old girl walked into a Bring Me The Horizon mosh pit and got mauled so her parents are suing. Yet again, no official reports here. And if there is any truth to this, the parents are at fault. Parenting 101: It's dumb as fuck to let a child go unattended at a concert, especially when there are mosh pits involved.

Hope that helps. MOSH ON!

Check the moshing art of Dan Witz in the banner above and the moshing in the videos below.

MAYHEM FESTIVAL 2013

So, the line up of Mayhem Festival 2013 has officially been announced and it's looking like a year worth going to. Usually the Festival is hit or miss, but they brought on Mastodon, Amon Amarth, Machine Head, Children of Bodom, Behemoth, Job for a Cowboy, and Born of Osiris among others for the event this summer.

Not to say there aren't some less favorable additions. Should be hilarious to see Emmure take the stage before Behemoth.

Check out the flyer along with some heavy music down below. And if you want to go to Mayhem 2013, be sure to head over to their Official Website and grab some tickets sooner than later!

CIRCLE PIT vs MOSH PIT

Time for some education. It's come to our attention that some of you have never moshed a day in your life. That's okay. Furthermore, some of you don't even know the difference between pits. That's not okay. This is where The Circle Pit comes in. We're going to show you the difference between a circle pit and your everyday mosh pit right here, right now.

First off... #1 rule of any pit is if you see someone fall, you pick them up. You might be pushing and shoving but moshing is fun, not angry. If you're an angry little douche in the pit, take out your sexual frustrations somewhere else.

Now onto business...

Circle Pit - We post a wide variety of music on this site, but this pit is reserved for the fast and the furious. When the drums and riffs fly at the speed of sound and the crowd starts spinning counter clockwise, welcome to the circle pit. But don't just stand there, fall in or move out of the way. First time? Run laps and push. Good workout, good fun.

You're doing it right

You're doing it wrong

Mosh Pit - There are all sorts of variations on moshing, but we're gonna keep this simple with the mosh philosophy of push pits over ninja kicks. Hardcore dancing can be alright, but if you're just out to hurt people refer to the second part of rule #1. If you go to shows to have fun, refer to the first part of rule #1 because this is where the pushing really comes in. Mosh pits can open up anytime, anywhere so stay on your toes. Jumping in is like entering a violent, crazed shove cyclone. First time? Push people. Yet again - Good workout, good fun.

You're doing it right (with somewhat unfitting music)

You're doing it wrong

Then there's the wall of death... We'll save that for the next lesson.

MAYHEM FESTIVAL 2012 CRUISE SINKS

Not really, but it will never set sail. And it's not because of Randy Blythe, he is a free man if you haven't heard yet. In the tradition of the "70,000 Tons Of Metal" cruise, Mayhem Festival was supposed to launch a similar 3 day heavy voyage. It was going to feature Lamb of God, Machine Head, Anthrax, Hatebreed, Suicide Silence, and Kingdom of Sorrow. But due to circumstances beyond Rockstar's control, it has been canceled. But there is some good news to go with the bad. If you purchased tickets to the ruined metal vacation, you will receive a LIFETIME pass to Mayhem fest.

Rockstar released this statement: "Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, we have been forced to cancel the Mayhem Festival Cruise," said the organizers. Anyone who purchased a tour package will be refunded. The powers-that-be are also offering anyone who bought a cruise ticket a lifetime complimentary pass to the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival summer tour, in addition to the refund. This pass will be valid on any tour date beginning in 2013. Details on the receipt of lifetime passes will be announced shortly."
