THE AFTERIMAGE “THE UNSEEN” SINGLE

American progheads The Aftermirage just released a brand new single called “The Unseen” through Famined Records and it packs in some twists and turns. First of all, it has a wider use of clean vocals than expected. As this may disappoint somebody or trigger some discussion among the most hardcore fans, I must admit the overall vocal scheme is truly amazing both in the clean and aggressive moments.

The guitar work on this is also absolutely stunning (as to be expected), with beautiful riffage and shredding. For those who miss the madness, they'll find a crazy and heavy mathcore attack in the final part of the song. Check out this new tune below along with their other recent singles!

THE AFTERIMAGE "PATHOGEN" SINGLE

Hailing from Canada, The Afterimage made an impressive debut with their EP "Formless". You can read our review right here. It was apparent they were destined for great things so far they are exceeding expectations.

A couple months back the band announced that they would drop two new singles. One of which being the heaviest material they've released to date and the other the most melodic. The melodic single, "The Seeking", made an impact a little while back with sweet riffage and intense songwriting. Now it's time to get heavy.

The Afterimage have officially released the second single. "Pathogen" hits very damn hard. From it's tight, punishing rhythms to it's chaotic, mathy guitar work, this track is a winner. Give it a good listen below and support this band if you start moshing involuntarily \m/

THE AFTERIMAGE "THE SEEKING" SINGLE / FREE DOWNLOAD!

"We recorded two BRAND NEW songs on opposite ends of the spectrum. One is the arguably the heaviest to date, the other the most melodic. Can anyone guess what is coming first?"

Hailing from Canada, The Afterimage just dropped their first single in the series of two, "The Seeking". And it's easily the most melodic material they've released to date. It's actually the first time the band has included clean vocals in their work, and they sound quite good. That aside, it still packs in the heaviness with some crushing moments. "The Seeking" is an incredible track which comes across as The Afterimage fused with CHON... which is god damn awesome! It's definitely recommended you give the track a listen or two along with some more goods below. You can download it FOR FREE right here! Get on that!

AURAS "PANACEA" EP PREVIEW

Hailing from Cambridge, Ontario, Canada, AURAS is comprised of four friends bound by groove, and centred by a constant pulse. Specializing in adrenaline-clenching polymeric melodies and breakdowns heavier than your average cement truck. Record labels will probably be scrambling to sign these guys after their debut EP "Panacea" drops. You can check out the artwork and the two songs they've released so far below. MOSH! The following statement from drummer Nathan Bulla describes where they are in the recording process with some extra announcements:

"Hey peeps! Just letting you guys know that today I'm OFFICIALLY tracking the drums for our upcoming EP!! This is the FINAL installment of our tracking process (yes, we did it kinda backwards) and that means that she'll be shipped out for mastering by the end of this month :)

Just a little reminder that our good friend Aaron Marshall from the band Intervals will melt your pants with a guest solo, and the legendary Kyle Anderson of The Afterimage will be featured on a track as well! We're honoured to have these guys help us out! I hope you're all as psyched about this release as we are!!! Thanks for sticking it out with us this far."

12/12/12 Update:

Auras just dropped a new single! After giving it a couple listens, it's safe to say the new track is awesome. It features some massive rhythmic segments and a big vocal cameo from The Afterimage's Kyle Anderson. The video itself also packs a lot of info on the upcoming EP. THE AFTERIMAGE "FORMLESS" EP REVIEW

This ferocious Canadian band dropped their debut EP "Formless" not too long ago. Taking after their countrymen in Structures, The Afterimage have a very heavy, chaotic approach to how they write. Albeit with a bit more of a melodic drive than Structures. "Formless" is a 4 song release with a lot to show off in a short amount of time (13 minutes to be exact).

The EP starts off with a very melodic approach in it's opener "Prologue". Clean cascading guitars bring in a driving melody over the grooving drums and atmosphere behind the song. Further in the track things get rougher, but retain the melody of the song as the guitars begin chugging out a breakdown into the end of the song. The next song "Reverie" almost explodes into the listeners ears with a beautifully tapped lead which moves into a driving rhythm. Some elements of hardcore emerge and things get much heavier as you go. Listeners get their first real taste of the band's sound in this track as the vocalist lets out deep growls and yells over the chaotic mathcore style reminiscent of Structures. Next comes "Shallows" which might be the heaviest track off "Formless". It definitely features that chaotic sound with interlaced breakdowns and technicality. It also has one of the strongest melodies on the release, showing the band has an ability to shift seamlessly from heavy to melodic. The last and longest track of the release is "The Void". This is a great, crazy, heavy song. There are some well done, skull shattering moments on this one.

The Afterimage is a very talented band but there is room for growth. Some "br00tal" parts of this release strike me as generic. They do a good job handling the heaviness most of the time though. Also, as mentioned above, the band certainly have an ability to transition seamlessly but they don't always showcase it. Some transitions on this release come off sloppy in my ears. Those are my only real criticisms of an otherwise great debut.

The Afterimage certainly have a lot of potential in their lineup and we're interested to see what they end up doing next. But in the meantime, you should give "Formless" a listen and try out the tracks we have for you. If you like what you hear, consider supporting these guys with some monies.
