SLAYER HOPING TO USE JEFF HANNEMAN SONGS ON THEIR NEXT ALBUM

The passing of Jeff Hanneman was an event felt hard around the entire metal community. It's never easy losing a legend... especially one who made such an impact on heavy music. But as we stated after the tragedy, his legacy will live on through his music.

This is coming into fruition in yet another sense as Slayer is hoping to use two songs written by Jeff on their long awaited eleventh studio album. This is great to hear honestly. I'm really looking forward to hearing more of Jeff's musical ideas before it's all said and done. A sentiment I'm sure that is shared by Slayer fans worldwide.

Tom Araya had the following to say (while speaking with Loudwire).
__________________________________________________________________________________

We have two songs. I haven’t had the privilege of going through his audio files at the moment, but that’s something I plan to do. Once we get some business squared away, that’s something I plan to do; to go through his music and see what he has. I know that he had several ideas together that he had presented to us in the course of the past year. Before he passed away, there was one complete song that he had managed to send to everybody that I listened to and that I thought was really, really good and communicated that to him. There’s stuff that I thought would be great to listen to just to see what’s there and how we can possibly use what he had done. That’s something I have every intention of doing.

One song was a song we didn’t finish for ‘World Painted Blood.’ That song is actually complete. Me and Jeff were working on melody and lyric ideas for that song. We weren’t really happy with what we were doing or what was becoming of that song, so it didn’t make it on the album.

It was just something we were working on and we couldn’t find anything we were happy with that would work well lyrically and melody-wise, so that’s one reason why that one didn’t make it on the album, but that song is complete, it’s done, it’s ready to go.

I don’t want to use the term ‘typical’ [laughs] but it’s Jeff, it’s obvious who put the song together. It’s Jeff music. He created a certain way and he put music together a certain way; it’s signature Jeff. It’s new, it doesn’t sound like anything else that we’ve done, in my opinion. Jeff usually just wrote songs and a lot of his stuff had certain signature things he would do to songs. That stuff is in there, but I would consider it new.

DAVE LOMBARDO REPLACED BY PAUL BOSTAPH AGAIN

Jeff Hanneman hasn’t even been gone for a month and already the mighty Slayer has suffered another blow. This time at their own hands. Following the contract struggles that occurred between Lombardo and guitarist Kerry King that forced Lombardo to miss tour dates with Slayer, Lombardo has been replaced by former Lombardo replacement Paul Bostaph.

This is the second time time that Lombardo has been given the boot from Slayer. Paul Bostaph replaced Lombardo for much of the 90s. Albums "Divine Intervention", punk cover album "Undisputed Attitude", "Diabolus in Musica", and "God Hates Us All" all featured drumming done by Bostaph. The guy is no slouch either. Post Slayer, Bostaph saw stints in thrash legends Exodus and Testament as well.

Technically Bostaph has the chops for the job, but he lacks that extra Slayerness that Lombardo’s drumming embodies. But whatever, it isn’t my choice if he hits shit for Slayer. If Lombardo is to be believed, Slayer has handled this whole problem very unprofessionally. Sad to see such an influential band fight like this but it’s certainly not the first time Slayer has had these problems.

THROWBACK THURSDAY - REFLECTING ON THE LOSS OF A LEGEND

In today’s metal news, it still sucks that Jeff Hanneman is no longer with us. Hanneman honestly was one of the most underrated players in metal. Definitely one of the most underrated players in Slayer. Besides being a riff master, Jeff could play quite the solo and was more chaotic and atonal in his phrasing than his peer Kerry King, who often got more credit than Hanneman as a guitarist. Along with with this, Lombardo often was the most highly praised member in the band over Hanneman. But honestly every member of Slayer is killer. The band is just awesome and the original lineup will be missed.

Hanneman is the perfect prototype for a metal god. All walk, very little talk. Hanneman wrote the most widely and critically acclaimed Slayer tracks and never became the ego driven persona that other guitarists of, and plenty not of, his pedigree became. Again some of Slayers most famous songs lyrically were written by Hanneman. He said what he wanted without becoming a preacher in the public eye. Slayer’s music caused plenty of controversy over the years but Jeff didn’t stir the pot like a drama queen. Or really even do many interviews, Hanneman just didn’t speak out very often. Overall, his loss is a huge loss for metal and it’ll be a long time until the metal world is over Jeff Hanneman’s passing.

Look below for some of the classic slayer songs that Hanneman was responsible for writing both the music and the lyrics and enjoy the soothing sounds of Slayer.

R.I.P. JEFF HANNEMAN

Slayer is devastated to inform that their bandmate and brother, Jeff Hanneman, passed away at about 11AM this morning near his Southern California home. Hanneman was in an area hospital when he suffered liver failure. He is survived by his wife Kathy, his sister Kathy and his brothers Michael and Larry, and will be sorely missed.

THROWBACK THURSDAY - SLAYER

I had the pleasure of witnessing Slayer front row once. It was like seeing the apocalypse on stage! The heat of pyrotechnics joined by the might of the trash melted the audience as Slayer commanded the stage along with our ears. Good times! If you haven't seem them, I suggest you do so before this happens.

Well before that particular show ever happened, Slayer had been dominating the globe with their aggressive brand of Thrash Metal. It all started with "Show No Mercy" back in 1983 and kept rolling until Slayer had the "World Painted Blood" in 2009. Between those albums, all kinds of greatness came to life (or death \m/) through the hands of guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hannemann, vocalist / bassist Tom Araya (ironically Catholic), and beast of the drum kit Dave Lombardo. Albums such as "Reign In Blood", "Hell Awaits", "Seasons in the Abyss, and "South of Heaven" arose from hell to blow out the ear drums of mortals with countless classics such as the title tracks, "Angel of Death", "War Ensemble", "Disciple", "Mandatory Suicide", and "Black Magic" just to name a few.

These men are recognized as icons to metalheads from all walks of life. They rightfully hold the title of being one of "The Big Four" to come out of musical darkness of the 80's along with Anthrax, Megadeth, and Metallica. All of which are still going today. Hell, they've even won Grammys (even if the Grammy Awards generally suck).

And it looks like Slayer will push on into the future. Word of a new album has been surfacing over the past couple years. Definitely something to look forward to! But in the mean time, blast the "Slayyyyyyyyyyyyyyer!" classics below.
